[email protected]Medical adhesive closure uses ‘medical glue (cyanoacrylate)’ which is a minimally invasive, non-thermal treatment for varicose veins. Medical glue has been used for many years in several other medical procedures for other body areas, for example in brain aneurysms. Like in ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, ultrasound is used to direct the injection of medical glue within the deeper abnormal superficial veins, once injected external hand pressure is applied to the treated vein resulting in the vein walls bonding together.
Medical Adhesive Closure is a unique, minimally invasive treatment that uses a safe-for-the-body medical glue to quickly and effectively treat varicose veins. Unlike other treatments, it does not require anesthesia to be injected into the leg via multiple needle sticks (tumescent anesthesia).
This procedure requires no anesthesia to be injected into the leg around the vein; only a small amount of numbing medicine at the access site is used. This vein treatment system has little to no pain or discomfort, both during and after the procedure. It is considered to be the varicose vein treatment associated with minimal discomfort.
Unlike heat-based procedures, with the use of “medical glue,” there is no risk of skin burns or heat-related nerve damage. It usually does not require any post-treatment pain medication or uncomfortable compression stockings.
After the procedure, you should be able to return to your normal activities immediately. Patients have reported minimal to no scarring, bruising, or swelling. The main contraindication of using Cyanoacrylate (Glue) is an autoimmune disease or previous severe allergic reaction to the glue. Glue is not suitable for all patients, please speak to our expert doctor.
