EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) or RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation) treatment is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins. Dr. Yazdani performs the procedure in an outpatient clinical setting using local anesthesia. Typically, she utilizes it to treat the superficial vein system in the leg, known as the saphenous veins, which demonstrate reflux on ultrasound.
Specifically, the methods of EVLA or RFA treatment remove the Great Saphenous Veins (GSV) and Small Saphenous Veins (SSV) from the bloodstream without causing a cut or stripping the vein. Furthermore, we perform both of these advanced procedures under local anesthesia.
Dr. Nellie is one of very few female vein experts using the techniques of EVLA or RFA treatment in Australia & New Zealand.
First, Dr. Yazdani moves a thin catheter up the vein from the ankle or knee level. Next, she cautiously and accurately positions it at the intersection of the GSV/SSV and deeper veins using a precise ultrasound scan. As the catheter contacts the vessel wall, it transmits heat or laser energy directly through the vein wall. Consequently, this causes the wall proteins to change shape and contract down, safely stopping the abnormal blood flow.
Fortunately, long-term follow-up shows that the veins largely remain closed off and rarely reopen. While most patients experience minor discomfort for a week or two, very little numbness remains in the treated area.
Dr. Yazdani holds more than 23 years of experience in treating patients with EVLA or RFA treatment procedures. Notably, world-renowned phlebologists, vascular surgeons, and dermatologists professionally trained her.
Dr. Yazdani has achieved great results in restoring vein health.
